Honorary membership: is awarded by the SSMS Board in recognition of outstanding services to SSMS and/or developments of Marine Sciences fields. Individuals who have been awarded Honorary Memberships are not required to pay membership fees and they have the right to attend the general assembly meeting and its committees and participate in the discussions.

Active membership: requires:
The member should have a higher education degree in the field of Marine Sciences.
The member has to pay the annual membership fee.
The member has to be accepted by the SSMS Board.

Associate membership: enjoyed by:
Undergraduate students in the field of Marine Sciences.
Workers and those interested in Marine Sciences who do not meet the qualification requirement specified for active membership.
Associate member pays 50% of the active annual membership dues.

Termination of Membership
Membership is terminated upon:
Withdrawal of the member or his/her death.
Delayed payment of annual dues by one year.
Upon the loss of one of the criteria for membership.
Upon performance of an action that results in a negative impact on the Society and upon the agreement of the SSMS Board.

Reactivation of Membership
The SSMS Board may reactivate a previously withdrawn membership based on a request from the member and upon the elimination or correction of the previous act that lead to the withdrawal of membership.
